The objective of this research was to investigate the PTAFBL as a novel approach to sustainable solid waste management and test the hypotheses outlined in this report. This completion phase is a method of immediate pollution removal of releasable carbon and ammonia-nitrogen as opposed to the traditional storage method of entombment. The goal of this innovative approach is to reduce the long-term risk of landfills by eliminating the sources of pollution. The hypothesis that was tested is that carbon and nitrogen will be leached from the waste as liquid is added; the PTAFBL scenario will achieve a reduction in leachate ammonia-nitrogen and COD at a lower liquid addition in comparison to flushing and chemical oxidation only.
