The current year-one research effort has focused on the investigation of the feasibility and characteristics of clean gaseous fuel (synthesis gas) production from plastics, tire rubber, MSW and farm biomass feedstock as well as providing a platform for the demonstration of these renewable energy technologies and establishing their commercial feasibility.

The goals set for the first year that have been achieved  include the development of a lab-scale high-temperature steam gasification system, performing experiments with a variety of feedstock, data analysis and reporting successful results. Additionally a theoretical model was developed and the model was successfully verified by the experimental results. It is especially important that the feasibility of high-temperature steam gasification of woody biomass and MSW has been demonstrated.
