The Florida Demonstration Bioreactor Project and Long-Term Treatment and Disposal of Landfill Leachate
What I’m Doing Now
I am a graduate student at the University of Central Florida and have been working on center funded projects for almost four years. I joined the University of Central Florida in August 2001 to work for Dr. Debra Reinhart. At that time, I began working on the Florida Bioreactor Demonstration project. I am still working on the bioreactor project, however, my dissertation work is included in work I am conducting on the Long-Term Treatment and Disposal of Landfill Leachate project. Specifically, my research involves conducting laboratory scale experiments aimed at defining the kinetics of in-situ nitrification and denitrification process and then using the rate information to develop guidance for field-scale implementation.
I have learned a tremendous amount working for Dr. Reinhart on these center funded projects. My knowledge of bioreactor landfills has been increased significantly and the number of opportunities I have had to expand on both my professional and academic experiences has been amazing. Without the center’s funding, such opportunities would not have been provided. Additionally, working for Dr. Reinhart has been a wonderful experience. I have learned a lot from her and hope to continue to do so as my work on these projects continues.
