Control of odors from construction and demolition debris landfills

What I’m Doing Now

Currently, I am working on a C&D waste characterization project funded by NASA. Waste composition study is being performed to evaluate the reuse and recycle potential for waste reduction. I have worked on a Florida center research project involving control of odors from construction and demolition debris landfills in Florida. I measured hydrogen sulfide flux rates on landfill surfaces using the flux chamber method. In addition to the H2S flux measurements, I conducted dispersion modeling using the EPA dispersion model, ISCST3, to evaluate impacts on landfill workers and communities around landfills. The research was physically challenging because all flux measurements were performed during summer in central Florida. However, I learned invaluable research skills, several computer software programs and met a lot of people who were working in the solid waste industry. I have worked for Dr. Debra Reinhart, who is a wonderful and beautiful advisor.
