University: University of Florida
Professor: Timothy Townsend

I attended the University of Florida under Dr. Timothy Townsend for both my Masters and Ph.D. I was funded for my Masters degree on two FCSHWM projects relating to abrasive blasting media (ABM). I co-authored two final reports and a best management practices document, as well as published a journal article on the topic. After working as a consulting engineer at URS Corp. for two years in Minnesota, I returned to UF for my Ph.D. My dissertation work was partially funded by the FCSHWM though the CCA-treated wood projects. I was able to work with both Dr. Townsend and Dr. Solo-Gabriele and contribute to the Year 5 and Year 6 reports. My dissertation is entitled, Disposal of CCA-treated Wood in Simulated Landfills: Potential Impacts. During my Ph.D., I also worked on the project (including the report) evaluating true impacts of C&D debris in the state of Florida. Other FCSHWM projects I assisted with include the NRRL bioreactor and the guide to removal of hazardous building components. From research completed during my Ph.D., there will be a total of five papers submitted to peer-reviewed journals. The research I conducted has allowed me to travel to various U.S. conferences, as well as Australia, and India to present my research. I also presented at the FICESS conference organized by the FCSHWM and co-authored a chapter in the related book on environmental impacts of poreservative treated wood. After I graduated, I completed an ORISE post-doc position at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Research Triangle Park, NC. I am now a Research Assistant Professor at the University of New Hampshire in the Civil/Environmental Engineering Department, http://www.unh.edu/erg/faculty/jambeck/index.html. I am so grateful for the opportunity to work on such high caliber research projects during my time at UF, which prepared me for my current position and helped me to reach my goal of becoming a professor.
